What some might have expected to be a blowout win, the Freeman Rebels varsity basketball team barely won against the Glen Allen Jaguars. The Rebels won Friday’s game against Glen Allen with a final score of 70-65.
After a month since their previous loss to Freeman, the Jaguars were ready for a chance at redemption. Senior varsity player Chi Mills said, “They were hungry [for a win] this time around for sure. They definitely played with more aggression on Friday.” Michael Fortune and Christian Smith both had strong games, each with a score of 21 points.
The game was a nail-biter with a close score throughout each quarter. Varsity player Carr Cox thought the score should’ve been quite different. “We underestimated them and underperformed. Thankfully, the ball movement and communication on both sides of the floor really keyed our victory”.
Varsity Player Clay Given also feels as if they have room to improve. “It was a sloppy game and we were lucky enough to walk away with a win. Coach knows what we need to do and I’m expecting practice to be intense this week and mainly focused on defense.”
