2020 was a mess. The world dealt with a contentious presidential election, Australian wildfires, racial justice protests, and a massive explosion in Beirut, all of which seem like a bevy of crazy things to happen in just one year. Yet, the sad reality is that 2020 was so crazy that many of these historic events were forgettable in comparison to the threat of a global pandemic.
Thankfully, 2020 is over, but we’ve only been through a month in 2021. So far, we’ve dealt with the storming of the United States Capitol, Elon Musk becoming the richest person alive, and the separation of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.
It already seems like we are going to have another chaotic year like 2020 in 2021. However, COVID-19 cases are on the downturn and things like the vaccine are looking up. So, who knows what’s going to happen this year? Well, some of our Freeman classmates certainly have very interesting predictions for the year ahead.
On a much more upbeat note, junior Gio Mazzeo believes “that hopefully, we are going to see an alien return to normality in school this September.” I think we can all agree that a normal return to in-person learning would be much-appreciated. However, Gio has a more unusual and significantly less agreeable prediction. Gio predicts that “progressive rock will make a massive comeback in 2021.” We will see about that.
On the other hand, junior Danielle Henry thinks that in 2021, “We are finally going to get to see some aliens.” This sounds pretty crazy, but quite frankly I’m pretty sure alien sightings are a long time coming.
Junior Thomas McNamara has another crazy proposal. Thomas thinks that “2021 is going to be the year of humans on Mars.” This might seem like a possibility as SpaceX and other major space companies are constantly expanding. But humans on Mars in just one year? That seems a little crazy.
Yet, what is craziest of all is that most of the events to come probably wouldn’t surprise us. We live in such a tumultuous and crazy time that finding aliens would only be but “so” crazy in 2021. So in 2021, maybe the crazy that we are looking for is just a dose of normality. After all, Tom Brady won the Super Bowl and nothing is more normal than that.
