A Summer Farewell From The Commentator

Mavericks, we made it!! After this crazy, wild year, it is finally summer. Just think: 9 months ago, we were all logging into Microsoft Teams for the first time, with all our cameras on, unsure of what the future of this year would bring. This school year has undeniably been one for the books. Students, teachers, and administrators alike faced unprecedented challenges and difficulties, yet somehow we managed to pull it off!

To our Freeman staff, thank you for all of your hard work and dedication. Your unwavering commitment to your students has been an inspiration this year more than ever. For most of the year, you all taught to black boxes with initials instead of real students, which is unimaginably tricky and tiring. We thank you for your perseverance and your unwavering commitment to our education.

To the Underclassmen, this year was challenging and draining, but we made it through. Unfortunately, I think most of us have a bad case of early-onset senioritis, as this year, at times, felt four years long. However, we are approaching the light at the end of a very dark tunnel. Hopefully, our 2021-22 school year will be relatively normal and filled with all of the activities and events that make up an authentic high school experience, especially for this year’s freshman, who haven’t experienced the power of a full pep-rally student section, the C.W., or the hype of a Friday night football game.

To the Seniors, we are proud of you for making the most of this bizarre year. We admit the class of 2021 was dealt a difficult hand, with junior year cut short and a senior year that was nowhere close to what I’m sure any of you expected. However, as the true Mavericks you all are, you persevered and made this year unforgettable in your way. Your Freeman Family is sad to see you go, but we can’t wait to see what the future holds for you all. Congratulations, Class of 2021!

And that’s a wrap on the 2020-21 DSF school year. From our Commentator family to yours, have a wonderful summer, and we look forward to seeing you all next year!
